“Digital photography is a science, film photography is a chimical miracle“.
This Steven Spielberg‘s quote (Youtube) has always moved and inspired me.
Analog photography is truly a chemical miracle that unfolds every time I press the shutter button. It’s a miracle that requires heart and passion, precision and knowledge but one that moves me first and foremost each time it happens.
Choosing analog photography for a wedding means, first and foremost, embracing a different and unique approach compared to digital photography. It’s not just a matter of technology but a way of thinking, observing and valuing each shot. In digital photography, the number of images we can take is virtually unlimited. There’s always the option to immediately review the result, to delete or correct what doesn’t convince us. But with film, every single shot truly counts: each photograph requires attention, patience, and a conscious choice. There’s no room for haste or excess; each click is considered, because you know that every shot will carry specific weight.

Film photography vs Digital photography
I’m a film wedding photographer and when I shoot on film, I find myself carefully considering every element of the scene. I linger over the details, the light, the emotions of my subjects, knowing that each single image must be thoughtfully crafted. Instead of chasing a flurry of shots, I focus on those few, precious moments that truly deserve to be captured. It’s a process that requires time, attention, and a deep connection with what’s happening. Every wedding film photograph is a piece of history in itself, an image with a soul, because it was captured with clear intention. And that, to me, is the true luxury of film: the chance to pause, observe and listen.
Digital photography, with its immediacy, certainly has its advantages. It allows experimentation and offers total control over the result. But this same possibility can lead to taking a lot of photos—perhaps too many—at the risk of losing the sense of the moment and of intention. Film photography, on the other hand, forces you to trust what you see and feel, to focus only on what truly matters. Every shot is a small challenge and a commitment, because you know you can’t modify it a lot in post-production: what you capture is authentic, true and unfiltered.
In the end, the difference isn’t only in the number of photos taken or in the number of details we can add or correct. The difference lies in the quality of the experience and the depth of the images. With analog, there’s no need to “clean up” the image or adjust it: it’s already perfect in its imperfection; it already tells a story. Choosing film wedding photography means choosing to value the moment, to capture its essence. It means slowing down, experiencing the wedding without the urgency for absolute perfection, with the certainty that each image will be exactly as it should be: unique, authentic and full of life.

Mastering the Light – Film wedding photographer
Film wedding photography is a refined art form that demands a mastery of light, technique and patience that few photographers today fully embrace.
My extensive knowledge of analog processes, including rare and historical techniques such as platinum-palladium printing and wet-plate collodion, forms the backbone of my approach, setting my work apart from the digital-heavy methods commonly seen today. These time-honored skills sharpen my eye for light and composition, elevating my photography to an artistic level that goes well beyond the typical wedding or portrait shoot.
With more than 10 years of hands-on experience in developing and printing with analog techniques, I possess a nuanced understanding of how light interacts with film and emulsion in ways that are vastly different from digital sensors. Each type of film and every classic process reacts uniquely to light, requiring a deep knowledge of exposure, shadows, and tonality. This allows me to approach every frame with a precision that maximizes the beauty of natural light, whether in soft, diffused settings or high-contrast scenarios.

Wet-plate collodion, for example, involves coating a plate in the field, exposing and developing it while still wet—a meticulous process that yields ethereal, one-of-a-kind images with unparalleled detail and richness. Working with these techniques requires a level of technical expertise and a heightened sense of light that only comes with dedicated practice.
For clients, this expertise means entrusting their moments to a photographer who doesn’t just capture an image but elevates it into an art form. My skill set, rooted in historical practices yet adapted for modern expression, ensures an experience that is both uniquely personal and artistically profound.
With analog wedding photography, every shot becomes a carefully crafted piece of art, carrying a sense of tradition and a mastery of light that sets it apart.
